Casa Rocca Piccola

Casa Rocca Piccola is a privately owned historic palace and living museum at 74 Republic Street in Valletta. Built more than 400 years ago for Don Pietro La Rocca, an Admiral and Knight of Malta, it remains the home of the de Piro family and is open to visitors.

A Living Palace in Valletta

Casa Rocca Piccola tells the story of Valletta and Malta through the experiences of one noble family. Visitors can explore rooms on the Piano Nobile containing furniture, paintings, family collections, costume, lace and other historic objects connected with Maltese aristocratic life.

Rooms, Collections and Garden

The visitor experience includes 12 principal rooms containing historical treasures. The property also has a garden and additional spaces that reveal how the house evolved as a family residence over several centuries.

World War II Bomb Shelters

Below the palace is a network of rock-cut shelters used during the Second World War. The shelters form part of the visitor experience and provide a very different perspective on life in wartime Valletta.

Guided and Audio Tours

The official visitor information currently lists audio tours from 10:00, with last admission at 16:00. Guided tours are scheduled hourly at 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00 and 16:00, except Sundays. Public-holiday arrangements can differ.

Food and Hospitality

Casa Rocca Piccola also includes Cafe Effervescence and an Italian restaurant located in the old kitchens of the property, adding a food and drink element to the visit.
